ASHLAND, Va.Â
– Randolph-Macon had three players score in double figures in a 65-50 win over Lynchburg as part of the Matt Davis Foundation Game on Saturday.
Score:Â Randolph-Macon 65, Lynchburg 50
Venue:Â Crenshaw Gym
Records:Â Randolph-Macon (16-3, 9-1 ODAC), Lynchburg (10-10, 5-6 ODAC)
How it Happened:
- Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) scored a layup in the paint to open the scoring for RMC which turned into a 12-4 run in the first six and a half minutes of the game. A quick 4-0 run from the Hornets was short-lived as RMC exploded for a 20-4 run over the next eight minutes. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half as RMC took a 37-20 lead into the break.
- The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on an 11-2 run to extend the lead to 27. The Hornets were able to cut the deficit down to 17 with eight and a half minutes to play but that was the closest it got until the final minute of the game when back-to-back threes by Lynchburg cut it to 15 but it was too little, too late as RMC rolled to a 65-50 win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Daniel Mbangue filled the stat sheet again with eight points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and four steals. He currently sits in the top five in both rebounds per game and assists per game in the ODAC.
- Three players scored in double figures, led by Keishawn Pulley Jr. (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School) with 12. Jabril Robinson (Rockville, Md./South Kent Prep) had 11 and Malcolm Hodges (Richmond, Va./Monacan) chipped in 10.
- RMC forced 20 turnovers and had 13 steals. 20 turnovers forced ties a season-high, matching the total from Averett earlier this week.
- Lynchburg scored just 50 points, which is the sixth time this year that RMC has held an opponent to 50 points or less. The Yellow Jackets have the nation's top scoring defense, allowing 54 points per game.
