Robinson's 24 Points Leads #10 Men's Hoops to Win at Averett

DANVILLE, Va. – Randolph-Macon men's basketball led from wire-to-wire as they rolled past Averett on the road 78-41 on Wednesday night.

How it Happened:
  • Jabril Robinson (Rockville, Md./South Kent Prep) scored the first bucket of the game on a three-pointer, followed by two baskets by Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax), which helped RMC build out to a 21-5 lead midway through the first half. The lead reached 20 with six minutes until the half as RMC led 31-11. Robinson scored five points in the final 1:13 of the frame to send the Yellow Jackets to the half up 42-19 over the Cougars.
  • The second half was more of the same as the Yellow Jackets quickly built up to a 30-point lead, thanks to another three by Robinson to make the score 52-21. RMC continued to make shots, as Margad Choijilsuren (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) poured in six points to help the lead grow to its largest differential of the game at 37 points at 69-32. The Lemon and Black would cruise through the finish, taking the 78-41 win for their 10th straight win.
Inside the Numbers:
  • RMC shot 56.4% from the field. During the win streak, RMC has shot 50% or better in seven of the 10 games.
  • The Yellow Jackets' defense held Averett to just 41 points on 19.6% shooting, allowing just nine field goals and zero three pointers. That marks the fifth time an opponent has been held under 50 points for the nation's top scoring defense. It is the lowest FG% for any opponent this season and the third time an opponent has failed to make a three-pointer this year.
  • Jabril Robinson led the way with 26 points on 10-16 shooting and 6-9 from deep. He totaled six assists with zero turnovers and also picked up five steals. Coming into the game, Robinson was 26th in the nation with a 2.77 assist to turnover ratio.
  • Margad Choijilsuren scored 13 points off the bench, marking his sixth game with double-digit points off the bench this season.
  • RMC tied a season-high with 11 steals, a feat that has been done six times this year.
