How it Happened
- While the Eagles began the game with eight shots in the first quarter, neither team could amass a goal.
- UMW broke through to score a pair of goals in the second quarter leading to a 2-0 deficit for RMC heading into halftime.
- With strong half-time adjustments in play, the Yellow Jackets were able to generate several offensive opportunities through penalty corners. On one of their four corners, Anna Stribling (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) sent a rocket shot from outside the circle where Alaina McCoy (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) corralled a deflection to put RMC on the board.
- The Eagles added onto their lead roughly four minutes later, making the score 3-1 heading into the fourth quarter.
- RMC did not relent in the final frame. Despite a fourth goal being added by UMW early in the fourth, RMC continued to collect opportunities.
- Hollie Sink (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) was able to dodge the goalkeeper near the stroke line, sending a shot toward goal where a UMW defender committed an infraction allowing RMC the stroke opportunity. Mia Kuhnle (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) cashed in on the penalty stroke, making the score 4-2.
