Areikat Scores 15 Points for Men's Hoops vs. #7 H-SC

ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon men's basketball fell to seventh-ranked Hampden-Sydney 61-52 on Friday night in Crenshaw Gym.

How it Happened
  • Amr Areikat (Ramallah, Palestine/Langley) hit a three-pointer to open the game for RMC but H-SC hit three of their own to take an 11-3 advantage though seven minutes of play. RMC broke their nine-minute scoring drought with a laup in the lane. The Tigers built their lead to extend to double-digits at 18-7 and maintained the lead to keep RMC from inching their way back into it. H-SC took a 28-19 lead into the halftime break.
  • RMC made two free throws and a bucket to open the second half and cut the lead down to five. The Tigers were able to stop the run and bring the lead back up to 14 at 43-29. The Yellow Jackets ignited a big 16-6 run to cut the lead to four after Joe Bachman (Wilmington, N.C./Greensboro Day) made a putback layup to make the score 49-45. Both teams traded shots the rest of the way and Hampden-Sydney knocked down their free throws to hold off RMC and take a 61-52 win.
Inside the Numbers
  • Amr Areikat was tied for the team lead with 15 points on 5-9 shooting, including three triples.
  • Jabril Robinson (Rockville, Md./South Kent Prep) also had 15 points while also adding seven assists. He went 7-8 from the free throw line.
  • Joe Bachman added six points and eight rebounds off the bench for RMC.
  • Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) compiled six points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.
  • RMC shot 81.8% from the free throw line. They've shot 80% or better from the line in four of the last five games.

  • Randolph-Macon will be back in action next Saturday at the Spartan Classic in York, Pennsylvania where they will play Marywood at 4:00 p.m.
