How it Happened
- Randolph-Macon outshot the Eagles 3-2 in the first quarter and earned two penalty corners. Alaina McCoy (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) scored the first goal of the game off a penalty corner late in the first frame.
- The Yellow Jackets kept BC from getting a shot in the second quarter while putting up two shots of their own but neither team could tally a goal before half as RMC held their 1-0 lead.
- The Eagles turned the tide in the second half, forcing more pressure on the RMC defense. Both sides had one shot on goal, and both were saved by the opposing goalkeepers, keeping the score at 1-0 heading to the fourth.
- RMC began putting pressure in the fourth quarter, earning four penalty corners. BC got on the board with the equalizing goal with less than five minutes left. Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) made three saves in the ensuing 43 seconds to keep the game tied and send it to overtime.
- Ambrogi-Torres made three more crucial saves in the first overtime and a staggering seven saves in the second overtime, sending the game into shootouts. Lynn Giesken (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) scored the game-winner in shootouts to give the Yellow Jackets a hard-fought win.
