Muldoon Tallies Goal for Field Hockey at #18 Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. – RMC Field Hockey battled 18th-ranked Shenandoah on Saturday, falling 4-1 to end their three-game winning streak.
Score:  #18 Shenandoah 4, Randolph-Macon 1
Location/Venue: Winchester, Va./Shenandoah University/Aikens Stadium
Records: Randolph-Macon (6-6, 2-2 ODAC), Shenandoah (9-2, 2-1 ODAC)
How it Happened
  • RMC goalie Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) halted a strong first quarter push by the Hornets with five saves in the first five and a half minutes. SU got on the board first following a penalty corner with 23 seconds left in the frame to take a 1-0 lead.
  • SU continued with their momentum to grab their second goal almost halfway through the second quarter but offense was stagnant on both sides through the rest of the half as the score stayed 2-0 at the break.
  • Four and a half minutes into the second half, Shenandoah extended their lead to three. RMC came back with some quick offense, including a penalty corner but came up short to stay scoreless. Ashlyn White (Frederick, Md./Urbana) made a big play late in the third, earning a defensive save to keep the score where it was.
  • Three minutes after SU added another goal in the fourth, Maggie Muldoon (Prince Frederick, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) got the Yellow Jackets on the board off a penalty corner. Neither team could generate any offense the rest of the way as SU held on for a 4-1 win.
Inside the Numbers
  • Muldoon's goal was the second of her career, her other goal came a week ago in a 6-0 win over Ferrum.
  • Ambrogi-Torres totaled nine saves on the day, five of which came in the first quarter of play. She now has four games with nine or more saves.
  • Ashlyn White's defensive save in the third quarter was the second of her career. Her last defensive save came against Shenandoah last season.
  • Alaina McCoy (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) picked up her sixth assist on the year, leading RMC in the category.
Up Next
RMC will be back in action on Thursday for the Swarm Game against Eastern Mennonite at 7:00 p.m. on Nunnally Field.
