Landis Nets a Pair in 3-0 Win at Virginia Wesleyan

ASHLAND, Va. – Emma Landis (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) netted two goals as Randolph-Macon Field Hockey downed Virginia Wesleyan on the road on Wednesday night.
Score: Randolph-Macon 3, Virginia Wesleyan 0
Venue: Birdsong Field
Records: Randolph-Macon (10-6, 5-3 ODAC), Virginia Wesleyan (6-11, 2-6 ODAC)
How it Happened
  • RMC survived a Marlins penalty corner early in the first and just a few minutes later, cashed in on their first one of the night, as Isabella McNulty (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) took a dish from Anna Stribling (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) to put the Yellow Jackets up one.
  • RMC continued the pressure they had generated in the first frame and used it early in the second. Emma Landis extended the RMC with a pair of goals in two minutes to make the score 3-0 in Randolph-Macon's favor.
  • VWU turned up some pressure in the third quarter, totaling four penalty corners and six shots but couldn't generate a goal as Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) made five saves to keep the shutout going.
  • Both teams generated chances in the fourth quarter but neither team scored, giving RMC a 3-0 win.
Inside the Numbers
  • Emma Landis' two goal game is the second such game of her career and first since a 2022 win over Meredith. Landis now has three goals on the season.
  • Isabella McNulty now ties for second on the team with five goals this season.
  • Anna Stribling's assist gives her seven on the year. She now has seven points in her last five games.
  • Mackenzie Wunderlich (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) notches the first point of her season with an assist on Landis' second goal.
For the Record
  • With the 10th win on the year, it ties the most wins in a season under head coach Jess Weiss, matching the 2019 season where the Yellow Jackets went 10-9.
