R-MC Field Hockey Puts On Offensive Showcase to Earn First Win

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon Field Hockey team hit the road to Buena Vista on Saturday to face off with Southern Virginia for a non-conference tilt. The Yellow Jackets got off to a scorching start and never looked back for their first win of the season.

The Basics

Score: Randolph-Macon 9, Southern Virginia 0

Location/Venue: Buena Vista, Virginia/Southern Virginia University/Knight Stadium

Records: Randolph-Macon (1-2, 0-0 ODAC), Southern Virginia (0-4, 0-0 USA South)

How it Happened

  • R-MC wasted no time getting on the board in the first quarter. Senior Forward Anna Gale lit up the scoreboard just 52 seconds into the game to open the scoring.
  • Gale was joined by three other Yellow Jackets scoring goals in the first 15 minutes of play. Sophomore Midfielder Alaina McCoy, Sophomore Forward Mia Kuhnle, and Freshman Forward Lynn Giesken all added a goal apiece.
  • The scoring was not done yet, as Alaina McCoy added another goal in the second quarter for her third multi-goal game of her career.
  • The Knights defense held R-MC scoreless through the third but the Yellow Jackets kickstarted the scoring again in the final frame. Senior Midfielder Summer Kujawa tallied two goals in the fourth quarter.
  • Kujawa was joined by Sophomore Defender Ashlyn White and Junior Forward Emma Landis adding to the offensive showcase to wrap up the day.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by multi-goal games by Kujawa and McCoy, as well as five other players found the back of the cage.
  • R-MC outshot SVU 30-0 due to a great showing on both sides of the ball, anchored by a strong back line to shut down the Knights.
  • Randolph-Macon had ten corners in the contest, which is their second most of the season in a single game.

Up Next

Randolph-Macon will travel to St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday, Sept. 14 before returning back to Nunnally Field September 17 for a contest against Goucher.
