(STAUNTON, Va.) – The Randolph-Macon women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season as it took down in-state rival Mary Baldwin on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets and Fighting Squirrels were locked in a close match through doubles play, but R-MC excelled once singles play began to easily take the team win.

How It Happened
- MBU took an early lead as third doubles was the first of the pairs to finish with the Squirrels on top 8-3, but the Yellow Jackets were quick to tie the team score with an 8-2 win at first doubles. Avery Smith (Sr., Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) and Grace Holderman (Jr., Roanoke, Va. / Cave Spring) comprised of the duo and Mary Baldwin's top pair of Hannah Eastridge and Lauren Hodgkins.
- The closest match of the day came at second doubles where Gabby Cifuentes (Sr., Stafford, Va. / Paul Vi) and Rachael Johnston (Sr., Roanoke, Va. / Hidden Valley) took on Alexis Seymore and Samantha Childs. The Jackets were able to pull out an 8-5 decision to help give them momentum going into singles play.
- Matty Grace Gilliam (So., Murfreesboro, N.C. / Ridgecroft) was the first to finish off her opponent in solo action as she took down Eastridge at third singles by sets of 6-1, 6-2. Holderman followed with a win over Gretchen Lutz at first singles by scores of 6-3, 6-1 to give Randolph-Macon a 4-1 team lead.
- Johnston sealed the team victory in impressive fashion as she didn't yield a single game to her opponent at fifth singles. Adele Huffman (So., Granite Falls, N.C. / University Christian) nearly did the same with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at fourth singles.
- Bailey Willard (Sr., Fredericksburg, Va. / Stafford) defeated Kelly Bantel at sixth singles 6-2, 6-1 and Cifuentes put the final touches on the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Seymore at second singles.
Inside The Numbers
- Holderman, Cifuentes, and Johnston all went 2-0 on the day. Both of Holderman's wins came at the top spot in singles and doubles.
- Holderman is 4-0 overall on the year as she also went unbeaten in doubles and singles play last week.
