Box Score (FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – It was a good start to the season for the Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team as it took down Mary Washington on the road Saturday afternoon. On a warm day that felt more like April than mid-February, the Yellow Jackets won their third season opener in the past four seasons and defeated the Eagles for the first time since 2001.

How It Happened
- The Eagles struck first with a goal 3:20 into the contest before Randolph-Macon close out the frame with the final two goals. Derek Marsilio (Sr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) provided the equalizer midway through the quarter before Patrick Moyer (So., Crofton, Md. / DeMatha) scored the go-ahead goal on a dish from Jack Smith (So., Stevensville, Md. / DeMatha) with 4:46 to go in the first.
- The Jackets made it a 3-0 run with at Brandon Smith (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) shot 2:08 into the second, but Mary Washington answered 34 seconds later on J.D. Nozemack's score. Defenses were strong for the rest of the half as the 3-2 score remained until the third.
- An early penalty on UMW gave the Jackets a man-up opportunity and Andrew Tiffey (Sr., Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake) cashed in on it with an assist from Ryan Pritchard (So., Crofton, Md. / DeMatha). After a Mary Washington goal, Jack Averna (Sr., Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier) and Marsilio both added goals on assists from Brandon Smith to make it a 3-1 frame for the Lemon and Black.
- After another Eagles goal to start the fourth, Tiffey scored his second, this time on another dish from Jack Smith, to make the score 7-4 with 5:32 to go. Mary Washington added another, but the Jackets were able to keep them off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers
- Brandon Smith finished with a three point day to lead the offense with one goal and two assists.
- Gage Turner (Fr., Spartansburg, S.C. / Providence Day) was exceptional between the pipes in his collegiate debut. He made 16 saves on 37 shots faced.
