Kujawa Nets a Pair as Field Hockey Cruises to 4-0 Win

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon field hockey team hosted a non-conference matchup with Sweet Briar on Wednesday night in Ashland. The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the second half to the tune of four goals to earn the victory.

The Basics:

Score: Randolph-Macon 4, Sweet Briar 0

Location/Venue: Ashland, Va./Randolph-Macon College/Nunnally Field

Records: Randolph-Macon (7-10, 3-4 ODAC), Sweet Briar (7-8, 2-2 CSAC)

How it Happened:

  • Randolph-Macon put pressure on the Vixens early, forcing five penalty corners in the first quarter, but coming up empty as the game was scoreless after 15 minutes of play.
  • R-MC did not let up the pressure in the second frame, continuing to see scoring chances but the Vixens' back line of defense kept the Yellow Jackets scoreless into the halftime break.
  • The scoreboard lit up with a Summer Kujawa (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) goal seven minutes into the half after Anna Stribling (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) set her up for the score.
  • Kujawa struck again six minutes later grabbing a rebound off the post and finishing the put-back.
  • R-MC was not done scoring, as Alaina McCoy (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) netted a goal off Stribling's second assist of the night.
  • Llana Thach (Henrico, Va./Glen Allen) wrapped up the impressive performance by R-MC with a goal with six seconds remaining to push the lead to four. Aja Washington (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) picked up the assist.

Inside the Numbers:

  • R-MC outshot the Vixens 13-1 overall and 9-1 on goal, forcing pressure all game on the offensive end. They also earned 10 penalty corners.
  • Kujawa's pair of goals gives her five on the year to couple with her seven assists. The five goals now puts her second on the team.
  • McCoy's tally adds to her team-leading eight goals on the season. She has now scored in five of the last nine games.
  • Stribling's helpers on the Kujawa and McCoy goals brings her to five on the year, trailing only Kujawa for the team lead in assists.
  • Llana Thach netted her first goal of her young career as Washington picked up her first assist of the season on the play.
  • Kelsey Seiler (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) added her fourth win of the season which is also her fourth shutout.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday for Senior Day and the final home regular season game as they host Shenandoah at Nunnally Field at 5:00 p.m.
