Willams, Scheir Tally Goals for Field Hockey in Loss to No.17 Washington and Lee

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon field hockey team hosted the first of their three game homestand to end the season as 17th ranked Washington and Lee came to Ashland on Saturday afternoon. The Generals used four second half goals to push past the Yellow Jackets.

The Basics:

How it Happened:

  • Randolph-Macon opened the scoring in the first quarter as Raegan Williams (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) got a pass from Alaina McCoy (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) right in front to grab a 1-0 lead.
  • R-MC controlled the rest of the first half, taking the one goal lead into the break.
  • WLU came out in the second half with pressure on the R-MC defense as they tied it up halfway through the third quarter and then added three goals in seven minutes in the fourth.
  • The Yellow Jackets didn't waiver, however, as Anna Scheir (Fallston, Md./Fallston) cut the lead to two with 2.5 minutes to go. Summer Kujawa (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) picked up an assist on the goal.
  • R-MC had two corners late, but came up empty, falling short on the comeback.

Inside the Numbers:

  • McCoy's assist in the first quarter was her fourth on the year and added to her team-leading 18 points on the season.
  • Williams' goal was her fourth of the season. She now has a goal in back-to-back games dating back to a 3-0 victory on Wednesday.
  • Scheir picked up her first goal of her career in the fourth quarter while Kujawa added her team-leading seventh assist.

Up Next:

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday for a home matchup with Sweet Briar at 7:00 p.m. which will serve as the Green Bandana Game.
