Box Score (WINCHESTER, Va.) - Randolph-Macon held off a furious rally to defeat hosting Shenandoah by one on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a fast start with the first six goals and never trailed the entire game.

How It Happened:
- It took just 74 seconds for the Jackets to get on the board as Derek Marsilio (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) scored for the early lead.
- After that, it was the Jack Smith (Fr., Stevensville, Md. / DeMatha Catholic) show as he scored the next four goals for R-MC. The first game 1:39 after the first and the last with 4:59 to go in the first. Marsilio also got a point on the third goal with an assist. Christian Devault (So., Ashburn, Va. / Riverside) capped the run with another score with 4:13 left in the quarter.
- Shenandoah scored the next two goals, but after the Hornets first goal in the second, Smith scored his fifth with an assist from Andrew Tiffey (Jr., Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake) 17 seconds later for the 7-2 lead.
- The Hornets closed the deficit to three with 4:32 to go in the half, but the Jackets answered with a pair of goals thanks to Tiffey and Ryan Pritchard (Fr., Crofton, Md. / DeMatha) on an assist from Jack Averna (Jr., Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier) to take a 10-5 lead at halftime.
- The Jackets and Hornets equaled each other with three goals each in the third giving Randolph-Macon a 13-8 lead headed to the fourth. Shenandoah scored the first three of the frame before Marsilio provided the Jackets' lone goal of the period. That made the score 14-11 with 5:35 to go in the game.
- The Hornets scored the next two and had an opportunity to tie with a pair of shots in the final minute, but Oz Potter (Fr., Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) was able to make saves on both occasions along with the ground ball to close out the game.
Inside The Numbers:
- Potter finished the game with a season-best 14 saves, surpassing his previous best of 11. He faced 38 shots on the day.
- In addition to Jack Smith, Marsilio and Pritchard both had multiple goal games with two each. Marsilio added two assists on the day with four points. Tiffey and Averna also added a pair of helpers to finish with three points each as both scored goals.
- Jack Smith now has 20 goals on the season, tied for second-best in the ODAC.
- Shots were nearly even with the Hornets holding the edge on a 38-36 count. Ground balls also favored the Hornets in a similar fashion 29-28.
- Jack Silvernale (Sr., Warrenton, Va. / Highland) was a force on faceoffs as he won 16-of-29. He picked up 10 ground balls in the process for game high honors.
- Defensively Xan Johnston (So., Berlin, Md. / Stephen Decatur) had a strong game as he forced three Shenandoah turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
