How It Happened
- The Maroons were able to slip one by the goalie at the 8:53 mark of the first quarter as Katie Martin scored on an assists by Emilee Wooten.
- Roanoke took the majority of the shots in the game as the hosts held an 18-8 advantage over the Yellow Jackets in that category, but R-MC had its fair share of opportunities and managed a shot on goal each quarter.
- The brunt of the Maroon attack came in the opening frame as they managed seven shots with five on goal. Goalkeeper Gatlin Snyder (Jr., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) was brilliant between the pipes with nine saves on the afternoon with four coming in the first.
Inside The Numbers
- The 1-0 decision was the lowest combined score for a R-MC field hockey game since the 2018 season. Three took place that season. Coincidentally that year ended with a 1-0 defeat in the ODAC quarterfinals at Roanoke. R-MC also had 1-0 wins against Rhodes and Ferrum that season.
- Seven different players accounted for the eight shots for the Jackets. Maria-Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal) was the player that accounted for two attempts, both of which were on target.
- Sunday's defeat broke a string of four consecutive victories in season-openers.
