R-MC Football Rushes for 384 Yards & 6 TDs vs. SU

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon football team collected 473 yards of total offense, with 384 on the ground, and the Yellow Jacket defense held Shenandoah to 38 rushing yards in a 45-14 ODAC victory.

The Basics:

How it Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets took the opening kickoff and drove 61 yards in nine plays, as senior Justin DeLeon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) scored on a three-yard run as R-MC took a 7-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest.
  • R-MC held SU to a three-and-out, but a muffed punt gave the Hornets the ball on the RMC 29. A TD pass on the next play tied it at 7-7.
  • The Yellow Jackets took the ensuing kickoff and moved 70 yards in 10 plays, with DeLeon reaching the end zone from one yard out as R-MC went up 14-7 with 3:26 left in the first period.
  • Senior Chris Vidal (Wake Forest, N.C./Wake Forest) hit a 31-yard field goal with 6:21 left in the second quarter as the lead grew to 17-7.
  • Junior Nick Hale (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) broke tackles for a 37-yard TD run late in the second period as the Yellow Jackets led 24-7 at halftime.
  • DeLeon delivered his third touchdown of the game late in the third quarter to give R-MC a 31-7 advantage.
  • Junior Presley Egbers (Clifton, Va./Centreville) scored from seven yards out five minutes into the final period to give the home team a 38-7 lead.
  • Following an interception by sophomore Ricky Thompson (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith), the Yellow Jackets moved 65 yards in 10 plays, with junior Aaron Acevedo (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) reaching the end zone from one yard out as R-MC went up 45-7.
  • The Hornets had the game's final TD with 19 seconds left to make the final score 45-14.

By The Numbers

  • R-MC had 68 rushes for 384 yards. DeLeon had 21 carries for 111 yards and three TDs. Egbers rushed 11 times for 71 yards and one score. Sophomore Kwesi Clark (Reigelwood, N.C./North Brunswick) ran 11 times for 68 yards. Acevedo carried 10 times for 64 yards and one TD. Hale had 10 carries for 59 yards and one score.
  • The Yellow Jackets held the ball for a season-high 44:12.
  • R-MC did not punt in the contest.

For The Record

  • Vidal hit all six of his extra point kicks. He has 168 career PATs, a program and ODAC record. Matt Seals of Emory & Henry (2016-20) previously topped the list with 166.
  • DeLeon leads the ODAC with 104.1 rushing yards per game, 15 rushing touchdowns, 16 total touchdowns and 96 points.
  • R-MC has won four straight and 12 of the past 13 meetings with Shenandoah.
