Jones, Wells Lead Six from R-MC on Women's Lax All-ODAC Teams

FOREST, Va. - Randolph-Macon senior midfielder Hannah Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) and junior goalkeeper Elicia Wells (Richmond, Va./Trinity) were named to the 2019 All-ODAC First Team for women's lacrosse, as the conference office announced the postseason awards.

Senior defender Abby Roth (Bayville, N.J./Donovan Catholic) and sophomore midfielder Kaylyn Hewes (Linthicum, Md./North County) earned All-ODAC Second Team honors. Senior midfielder Rachel Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) and junior attack Mary Castle (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) were All-ODAC Third Team members.

Hannah Jones led the team and was eighth in the ODAC with 45 goals. She had at least one goal in every game and tallied multiple goals in 18 of 19 contests. Hannah had season highs with four goals and six points in a 17-6 ODAC win at Virginia Wesleyan. He had three goals in the ODAC Championship Game at Washington and Lee. She also topped the Yellow Jackets with 52 points. Hannah was second on the club with 73 draw controls and fourth with 19 ground balls. For her career, Hannah appeared in 72 games with 58 starts. She had 122 goals, 20 assists and 142 points. Hannah amassed 194 draw controls, the third-highest total in program history. She also had 71 ground balls and 42 caused turnovers.

Wells led the ODAC in save percentage at 48.1%. She started all 19 games and secured 167 saves in nearly 895 minutes of action. Wells had a season-best 20 saves in a 20-10 win at Meredith. She matched that save total in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament, a thrilling 13-12 victory over Roanoke. Wells had 32 saves in two ODAC tourney contests and was named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team. Wells was third on the team with 21 ground balls.

Roth started all 19 games and was first on the team and sixth in the ODAC in caused turnovers with 23. She forced three turnovers against Christopher Newport and matched that number at Meredith and against Lynchburg. Roth was second on the club with 25 ground balls. She had a season-high four ground balls vs. Lynchburg. During her four-year career, Roth appeared in 67 games with 54 starts. She caused 65 turnovers and had 64 ground balls. Roth was All-ODAC First Team in 2017 and earned a spot on the ODAC All-Tournament Team in 2018.

Hewes appeared in all 19 games with 17 starts. She led the Yellow Jackets and was fourth in the ODAC with 85 draw controls. Hewes had seven draw controls in a game three different times and tallied six in six contests. She also topped the team with 31 ground balls. She grabbed four ground balls in wins over Virginia Wesleyan and Shenandoah. Hewes was third on the club with 15 caused turnovers. She forced four in a 17-6 win at Virginia Wesleyan. Hewes was seventh on the team with 17 goals. She had three goals and four points at Virginia Wesleyan.

Rachel Jones was fifth on the team with 21 goals and sixth with 24 points despite missing five games due to injury. Rachel had four goals and five points in the season opener, a 17-2 win at Frostburg State. She had three goals against Christopher Newport and also at Virginia Wesleyan. Rachel was fourth for R-MC with 34 draw controls. She had four draw controls in each of the first three games and had 21 in the first six games of 2019. Rachel had three ground balls against CNU. She had three caused turnovers at St. Mary's (Md.). For her career, Rachel appeared 45 games with 16 starts. She had 34 goals, 37 points, 54 draw controls, 34 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers.

Castle was second for the Yellow Jackets with 31 goals and 39 points. She had a season-high five goals and six points in a 16-15 win over Roanoke during the regular season. She had four goals and five points in a 20-10 victory at Meredith. Castle had multiple goals in nine games this season. Castle was also second with 18 caused turnovers. She forced four turnovers in the finale of the regular season, a 10-9 win over Shenandoah. Castle had three caused turnovers in a 16-10 victory over Coast Guard.

Under head coach MK Geratowski, the R-MC women's lacrosse team went 12-7 overall and 8-1 in ODAC play. The Yellow Jackets had an eight-game win streak after their ODAC Tournament semifinal win over Roanoke. R-MC finished second in the ODAC standings for the fifth straight season and owns a 39-5 mark over those five years. The Yellow Jackets advanced to the ODAC title game for the fifth consecutive time as well. R-MC has recorded double-figure wins for seven straight seasons.
