Hinson, Williams and Stribling Push R-MC to Victory

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Sarah Hinson (Nashville, N.C. / Northern Nash) and juniors Tory Stribling (Troy, Va. / Fluvanna County) and Abigail Williams (Palmyra, Va. / Fluvanna County) won their entire slate of matches in what was the final home contest of their careers as the Yellow Jackets defeated Guilford 8-1 in conference action on Saturday afternoon. Williams' win is the first of her collegiate career.

The doubles competition got everything started out on the right foot for Randolph-Macon. Junior Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va. / York) and sophomore Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va. / York) won in #1 doubles 8-1. Junior Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary) and freshman Olivia Uzer (McLean, Va. / Langley) also grabbed a doubles victory in #2 doubles, blanking Guilford's Olivia La Ganza and Natalie Whitmeyer 8-0.

Hinson and her partner, sophomore Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial), also won in a straight set, winning 8-0 over GC's Megan Kimpel and Katherine Kane.

With the 3-0 lead heading into singles, the majority of the R-MC lineup won, including two other student-athletes who won their first collegiate match, in addition to Williams.

#1 singles was the only misstep for R-MC, and that match was close even then. Uzer, playing at #1 singles for the first time this season, won the first set 6-3, but lost the second set to GC's Makayla McLaurin by the same score. The two battled back and forth in the ten-point tie-break set, eventually surpassing the needed ten points until McLaurin eventually won by two, 12-10. The match was GC's lone victory of the day.

Hinson picked right back up at the winning ways for R-MC in #2 doubles, defeating Guilford's Brooklyn Hopkins 6-1, 6-0. The win marked Hinson's third singles victory this season and 16th overall as a Yellow Jacket as she closed out final regular season home match.

Stribling played #3 singles in the match and was able to defeat La Ganza 6-2, 6-0.  Stribling, a junior who is graduating early, has won six singles matches in her time at R-MC, with three of them coming this season.

The final three players for R-MC all secured their first collegiate wins. Freshman Daniella Hafner (Leesburg, Va. / Loudoun County) made her first career appearance and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Whimeyer in #4 singles. Sophomore Courtney Jenkins (Yorktown, Va. / York) also made her first start at #6 singles and came to the same result, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Kane.

Williams, also a junior graduating early, celebrated her final home match with another sweep on the afternoon for R-MC. She defeated Kimpel 6-0, 6-0, earning her first collegiate victory.

Randolph-Macon is now 11-3 on the season and 9-1 in the ODAC. The team will finish the season against Hollins tomorrow at 1:00 PM in Roanoke.
