Field Hockey Saves 27 Shots, but Falls to #17 Christopher Newport

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va – Randolph-Macon brought the defense, but No. 17 Christopher Newport had the equating offense that saw 53 shots total between the two teams. Two of the Captains' shots found the goal as the Yellow Jackets fell to CNU 2-0.

Randolph-Macon held the Captains off for 28 minutes, despite a volley of 33 shots in the first half. The Captains found the goal with seven minutes to go in the half, which came off a second chance opportunity.

A second goal came for CNU in minute 61 on another rebound. It was one of 16 shots for CNU in the second half.

Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va. / Louisa County) saved 22 shots and her teammates added five more to total 27 saves on the night. Stanley played all 70 minutes and allowed just the two goals to CNU despite the Captains trying 49 shots.

Offensively for R-MC, freshman Claire Magill (Moseley, Va. / Trinity Episcopal School) was the leader for Randolph-Macon. She took two of the Yellow Jackets' three shots, with one of them coming on goal. Freshman Ayanna Healy (Newport News, Va. / Woodside) took the other shot for R-MC.

R-MC is now 3-3 on the season. Randolph-Macon will return to the field on Sunday at 3:00 PM at Day Field to take on the Eastern Mennonite Royals.
