Ferrum, Va. – With just minutes remaining, the Randolph-Macon field hockey team completed a converted a critical penalty corner to a goal and secured the 1-0 victory against the Ferrum Panthers Wednesday afternoon.

The teams played to a halftime draw. Randolph-Macon took six shots in the first half, with two of them coming on goal. The Yellow Jackets were also awarded seven penalty corners. Sophomore Jessica Cooke (Williamsburg, Va,/Warhill) and freshman Claire MaGill (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) each took two shots in the first half. MaGill finished with five shots while Cooke totaled three, two of them coming on goal.

The two teams battled it out for another 32 minutes, nearing the end of the game. That's when freshman Kaylene Thomas (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) sent a shot past the keeper off of an Elizabeth Jacobs (Laurel, Md./Atholton) penalty corner. The shot was one of three for Thomas during the game. Jacobs was credited with the assist.

Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va./Louisa County) finished with one save. It was the only shot on goal taken against her in the entire game. R-MC only allowed six shots in total.

R-MC held the penalty corner advantage 14-5 and outshot the Panthers 16-6.

The team will hit the field again Saturday as they take on Goucher in Baltimore at 6:00 P.M.
