Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman Miranda Hall (Mechanicsville, Va./ Hanover) recorded 19 kills on her collegiate debut and junior Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C./ Cardinal Gibbons) had 35 assists as Mary Washington came from behind to beat Randolph-Macon 3-1 on Thursday night in R-MC's season opener.
The Yellow Jackets started off dominantly and won the first set 25-15.
The Eagles rebounded and won a close second set 25-22. UMW continued with the momentum and would go on to win the third set 25-18.
Both teams fought out an even four set, UMW led for the majority of the set but R-MC climbed back to make the score even at 24. The Eagles would go on to win the final two points to claim the set 26-24 and win the match 3-1.
Hall led the team in attacks with 39, followed by junior Rebecca McGilvery (Warrenton, Va./ Kettle Run) with 38 and sophomore Mariah Clark (Stuarts Draft, Va./ Rivershead) who recorded 28.
Junior Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va./ Peninsula Catholic) led the team in digs with 21 while McGilvery recorded 12 on the night.
Randolph-Macon returns to the court on September 9 in the Washington and Lee Invitational where they will open up play with St. Mary's at 2:30 p.m. and Southern Virginia at 7:30 p.m.
