ASHLAND, Va. – Due to unplayable field conditions at St. Mary's, Saturday's season opener for the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team will now be played on Day Field in Ashland.
St. Mary's will face the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, March 5, at 1 p.m. on Day Field.
R-MC was picked second in the ODAC preseason poll. Under third-year head coach MK Geratowski, R-MC has lost just one starter from a season ago and returns 12 starters, including a pair of senior All-Region and First Team All-ODAC selections in Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) and Natalie Schnell (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton). Whitman, a midfielder who was also First Team All-State, was second in the ODAC with 107 draw controls. She also led the team with 40 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers. Schnell was a Second Team All-State defender. She was second on the club with 30 ground balls and fourth with 19 caused turnovers.
Sophomores Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) were Second Team All-ODAC in 2015, while junior Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) was Third Team All-ODAC. Hsieh, a Second Team All-State midfielder, topped the team and was second in the ODAC with 56 goals. She was fourth in the league with 68 points. Lightfoot led the Yellow Jackets and was fifth in the ODAC with 19 assists. Snee was second on the club with 55 draw controls and 22 caused turnovers.
R-MC was 14-4 overall a season ago and 9-1 in the ODAC. The Yellow Jackets blasted Virginia Wesleyan 14-3 in the ODAC semifinals before dropping an 8-7 decision at top-seeded Washington and Lee in the championship game. Geratowski was named Coach of the Year in the ODAC and in the state of Virginia. R-MC led the ODAC with 13.94 goals per game, 5.72 assists per game and a shooting percentage of .506.
