Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) registered four goals and one assist as the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team edged No. 18 Washington College 10-9 Saturday afternoon at Day Field.
The Shorewomen (3-3) scored 33 seconds into the game before the Yellow Jackets (2-3) put up four straight. Senior Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods) tallied two and Whitman added a pair as R-MC took a 4-1 lead with 15:35 left in the first half. WC recorded two goals in 34 seconds to pull within one before sophomore Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and senior Alyssa Chavez (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) netted goals to push the lead to 6-3 with six minutes left in the period. The Shorewomen registered a free position goal in the half's final minute as the Yellow Jackets led 6-4 at the break. R-MC held a 19-14 advantage in shots and 12-7 edge in ground balls.
Hsieh scored 36 seconds into the second half to give the home team a 7-4 lead. WC put up the next two goals to make it a one-goal contest. Junior Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) netted a free position goal with 24:23 left to give R-MC an 8-6 edge. WC tallied the next two goals to level the score at 8-8 with 19:19 remaining. Whitman scored with 14:42 left to put the Yellow Jackets back on top at 9-8. She netted the final goal for the victors with 3:35 remaining to make it 10-8. The Shorewomen scored with 24 seconds left to make the final 10-9.
Sophomore Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) had two assists, while Whitman and junior Laney Dee (Norfolk, Va./Bishop Sullivan) each had one assist.
Snee led the Yellow Jackets with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Tricia Mangas (Chantilly, Va./Paul VI) also caused three turnovers.
Junior Alle Walker (Towson, Md./Mercy) recorded six saves.
Randolph-Macon begins ODAC play on Tuesday, March 22, with a 7 p.m. contest at Roanoke.
