Box Score ASHLAND, Va. - Sophomore Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) recorded his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds as the seventh-seeded Randolph-Macon men's basketball team defeated tenth-seeded Eastern Mennonite 84-68 Tuesday evening in Crenshaw Gymnasium in the first round of the 2016 ODAC Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets (13-13) will advance to the quarterfinals of the ODAC tourney to face second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Salem Civic Center. R-MC defeated the Marlins 88-59 during the regular season.
Noe went 7 for 14 from the floor and 2 for 2 from the free throw line. He was one of five Yellow Jackets to score in double figures. Freshman Jon Nowell (Riverdale, Ga./Blair Academy) and sophomore Mike Silverthorn (Hackettstown, N.J./Blair Academy) both posted 15, while senior Lamont Moore (Waverly, Va./Tidewater Academy) and junior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) both contributed 11.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first four points before the Royals (9-14) tallied seven straight to take a three-point lead. Silverthorn hit a pair of three-pointers in a 9-0 run as R-MC went up 13-7 with five minutes gone in the half. The Yellow Jackets were ahead 21-20 before a jumper by junior Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) capped an 8-2 spurt as the home team led 29-22 with 7:40 left in the half. R-MC was ahead 33-29 before a pair of baskets by Taylor and a Silverthorn trey made up a 7-0 run as the Yellow Jackets enjoyed their largest lead at 40-29 with 3:40 remaining in the period. EMU cut the deficit to six before Wilson hit a short jumper to give R-MC a 45-37 edge at the break. Silverthorn went 5 for 5 from behind the arc for 15 points, while Taylor added 11.
Nowell scored six points as R-MC started the second half on a 12-4 run to take a 57-43 lead with 15:30 left in the contest. The advantage grew to 16 at 63-47 with 11:45 left before a 9-1 run by the Royals made it an eight-point game at 64-56 with 9:20 remaining. A three-pointer by Wilson capped a 10-1 spurt as the Yellow Jackets took a 74-57 lead with 7:15 left. The advantage grew to 18 at 80-62 before R-MC recorded the 84-68 win.
The Yellow Jackets dominated the glass, holding a 47-25 advantage in rebounds. Nowell pulled down six boards, while Silverthorn tied his career best with six.
R-MC recorded 22 assists, their second straight game with 20 or more. Moore paced the victors with six.
RaShawn Latimer led EMU with 12 points.
