Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. - Sophomore Mariah Clark (Stuarts Draft, Va./Riverheads) had 15 kills and registered 11 digs as the Randolph-Macon volleyball team fought back for a 3-1 victory at Johns Hopkins on Friday evening.
The Yellow Jackets (14-4) dropped the first set 25-21 before posting wins of 25-21, 25-19 and 27-25 to secure the match.
The Bluejays (10-4) jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead in the first set before R-MC rallied to knot the score at 15. The score was knotted at 20-20 before JHU netted five of the final six points to claim the 25-21 win.
The teams stayed within two points of each other through most of the second set. The score was tied at 19 before the Yellow Jackets scored six of the final eight points to record the 25-21 victory.
JHU built an early 10-6 lead in Set 3 before R-MC used an 8-1 run to take a 14-11 advantage. The lead grew to five at 17-12 before registering the 25-20 win.
With the score tied at 5 in the fourth set, the Bluejays scored four straight to take a 9-5 edge. The Yellow Jackets used a 6-2 spurt to level the score at 11. JHU had a 14-12 lead before R-MC used a 5-1 run to take a 17-15 advantage. The home team tied the match at 17 before the visitors scored seven of the next 11 points to sit at match point at 24-21. Following a timeout, JHU scored four straight for its own set point at 25-24. R-MC scored the final three points on a kill by Clark, a service ace by junior Rebecca McGilvery (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) and a kill by junior Morgan Seal (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) to seal the victory.
Freshman Miranda Hall (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) had 15 kills and 42 total attacks for the Yellow Jackets. McGilvery added 11 kills. Junior Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) registered 42 assists and had 10 digs, four kills and four assisted blocks. Junior Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va./Peninsula Catholic) also had 11 digs for the victors.
Due to Hurricane Matthew, Randolph-Macon's games against Averett and Methodist on Saturday, Oct. 8 have been cancelled. The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12, hosting Washington and Lee at 7 p.m. in a battle for first place in the ODAC.
