Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The R-MC volleyball team remained perfect in ODAC play with a come from behind, 3-2 victory over Va. Wesleyan on Wednesday night. With that win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 13-4 for the season and 6-0 in ODAC play, while the Marlins go to 8-12 and 1-4 in ODAC play.
Junior Rebecca McGilvery (Warrenton, Va./ Kettle Run) played a complete game as she slammed home 14 kills and added 15 digs and one block on the night.
In the first set, both teams traded leads back and forth, but the Marlins were able to take the first set by a score of 27-25.
R-MC responded with a strong second set, winning 25-17. With the score at 14-12, the Yellow Jackets would go on to win the next five out of seven points to take control of the set and level the score.
The third set saw the Marlins reclaim the lead with a 25-19 win.
The Yellow Jackets then won the fourth set in dominating fashion as they won 11 of the first 13 points and were able to see out the set 25-15.
In the fifth and final set, R-MC again came out with a huge lead, as it was up 8-2. Va. Wesleyan then put a run of its own together, as they climbed back to trail by one at 9-8. R-MC then won six of the next seven points to clinch the match with a 15-9 victory.
Junior Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C./ Cardinal Gibbons), who was named the ODAC Volleyball Player of the Week, continued to be a crucial part of the offense as she delivered 54 assists. She also dug 16 balls and added a solo block and one block assist.
Offensively, freshman Miranda Hall (Mechanicsville, Va./ Hanover) led the team in kills with 21 on 43 total attempts, for a kill percentage of .302.
R-MC recorded 99 digs on the night and was led by junior Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va./ Peninsula Catholic) who had 23 on the night.
The Yellow Jackets will be back on the court on Friday when they travel to play Johns Hopkins at 5 p.m.
