ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon field hockey team was defeated by Washington and Lee 2-0 on Wednesday night. R-MC held W&L to a goalless first period, but the visitors scored twice in the second period. R-MC fell to 1-8 (0-3 ODAC) for the season as W&L went to 7-4 (3-0 ODAC).

Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va./ Louisa County), who was second in the ODAC in saves heading into the match, made another impressive 13 saves on 30 shots faced.

R-MC had two great chances to take the lead in the first half. The first came from a counter where freshman Lauren Petty (Gloucester, Va./ Gloucester) fired a shot from the left that went inches wide of the W&L goal.

Then came another opportunity for the Yellow Jackets from a penalty corner. Senior forward Skyler Seligman (Norfolk, Va./ Granby) set up fellow senior Katiee Nicholas outside the box, who then carried the ball inside and ripped a shot that was blocked by the defense.

W&L scored two goals in the second period. The first from Kendall Peterson that took a wicked deflection and looped over the goalie. The second came in the 57th minute through Lauren Paolano.

R-MC recorded five shots on the night, with Petty and Nicholas each recording two. Nicholas led the team in shots on goal with two.

The Yellow Jackets will be back on the field on Friday, October 7 when they host Shenandoah at 7 p.m. at Day Field.
