Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Washington & Lee on Wednesday night. Both teams were undefeated in the ODAC coming into the contest, with the win R-MC improve to 15-4 and 7-0 in ODAC play, while the Generals fall to 16-4 and 6-1 in the ODAC.
On senior night, Rachel Wyatt (Virginia Beach, Va./ Princess Anne) was honored before the game in recognition of her four years. Heading into the match, Wyatt had been a part of 84 Yellow Jacket wins. Tonight, she helped the Yellow Jackets claim the 85th victory, as she was second in the team in digs with a season high 13 and also added one kill.
R-MC fell behind early to W&L in the first set and were unable to come back as the Generals took the first set by a score of 25-21.
The Yellow Jackets then responded by winning three straight sets. The second set saw the Yellow Jackets lead for a majority of the set, but W&L launched a late comeback and fought off set point multiple times. R-MC ended up taking the set by a score of 30-28.
In the third set, R-MC and W&L fought early and traded leads. With the score at 20-18 for the Generals, R-MC won the next seven out of eight points to take the set.
R-MC controlled the fourth and final set as the game was ended with a kill from sophomore Miranda Clark (Stuarts Draft, Va./ Riverhead).
Junior Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C./ Cardinal Gibbons) once again led the Yellow Jackets in assists with 47. Quinn also recorded four kills on four total attacks and dug nine balls.
Junior Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va./ Peninsula Catholic) contributed to the defensive play, as she led both teams in digs with 23.
On the offensive side, junior Rebecca McGilvery (Warrenton, Va./ Kettle Run) led the team in kills as she pounded 18 home. McGilvery also added 11 digs.
R-MC will be back on the court on Friday, October 14th when it hosts Bridgewater at 7 p.m. The Yellow Jackets also play on Saturday, October 15th at Crenshaw when they host EMU at 12 p.m.
