Moore Scores 20 as R-MC is Edged by Randolph

ASHLAND, Va. - Senior Lamont Moore (Waverly, Va./Tidewater Academy) led all scorers with 20 points the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team fell 62-59 to Randolph in ODAC action Saturday afternoon in Crenshaw Gymnasium.

The Wildcats (8-5, 2-2 ODAC) held a 60-54 lead with 3:48 remaining. Freshman Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) hit a free throw, while Noe and Moore made layups to pull R-MC within one at 60-59 with 2:29 remaining. That would be the final points for the Yellow Jackets. Zach Desgain hit two free throws for the Wildcats with 42 seconds left to make the final 62-59.

Moore scored the first basket of the game for the Yellow Jackets before the Wildcats used a 10-2 run to take a 10-4 lead with 14:15 left in the first period. Junior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) hit a trey and converted an alley oop as R-MC cut the deficit to two at 13-11 with 12:25 remaining. Randolph sank a pair of three-pointers to push its lead eight at 22-14 with 10:35 remaining. Taylor scored five in a 7-1 spurt for the Yellow Jackets over the next two minutes to narrow the gap to 23-21. The Wildcats led 25-23 with 6:40 left before closing the half on a 14-9 run to take a 39-32 lead at intermission. Taylor had 10 points in the first half for the Yellow Jackets, while Moore had eight points, four rebounds and three assists for R-MC.

Moore hit a pair of three-pointers as R-MC scored the first 10 points of the second half to take a 42-39 lead with 16:20 left. Randolph tallied six straight points to reclaim the lead at 45-42 with 14:40 remaining. Buckets by Moore, sophomore Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) and Taylor gave the lead back to the Yellow Jackets at 48-45 with 9:30 left. R-MC was up 52-49 with eight minutes remaining before the Wildcats put together an 11-2 spurt to go ahead 60-54 with 3:48 left.

Taylor finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Junior Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) had six points and six assists.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. at Shenandoah.
