Anderson Sets ODAC Rebound Mark as R-MC Handles Hollins 80-54

ASHLAND, Va. - Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) scored 19 points and pulled down an ODAC-record 28 rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team downed Hollins 80-54 in ODAC action Saturday afternoon in Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Anderson recorded her 12th double-double of the season and tied a career mark with four assists. She became the sixth player in program history to reach 1,500 career points, now standing at 1,509. Anderson is third on the career rebounds list with 958, trailing Karen Eye with 960 and Molly Ariail with 1,005.

Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) had 11 points and junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) posted career bests with five field goals and 11 points.

Livermon hit a three-pointer and Anderson sank two free throws as the Yellow Jackets (9-9, 5-5 ODAC) took a quick 5-0 lead 1:20 into the contest. The lead grew to six at 9-3 midway through the period before HU (3-14, 0-10 ODAC) scored three straight layups to knot the score with 2:50 left. Intermill hit a trey and a jumper to spark a 9-0 run for R-MC. The Yellow Jackets would take a 20-11 lead at the end of the period.

Intermill hit a jumper to start the second quarter as R-MC doubled HU 22-11. The visitors had a 9-3 spurt to cut the deficit to five at 25-20 with 5:30 left in the period. Anderson had a jumper and two follows to spark a 9-2 run as the Yellow Jackets led 34-22 with three minutes remaining in the quarter. R-MC was up 37-29 at intermission. Anderson had a double-double in the first half with 11 points and 13 boards, while Intermill chipped in nine points.

HU hit a pair of free throws to start the third quarter before a three-pointer by Livermon capped a 7-0 run as R-MC took a 44-31 lead with 8:25 left. The advantage would grow to 16 at 55-39 before the Yellow Jackets took a 57-44 lead to the final period.

Livermon had five and Anderson added four as R-MC scored the first 11 points of the fourth quarter in taking a 68-44 lead with 5:20 remaining. Sophomore Teal Reynolds (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) scored five of R-MC's final six points as the Yellow Jackets took their largest lead at 80-52 before finishing with the 80-54 victory.

Freshman Jayla Wade (Newport News, Va./Heritage) tallied career highs with nine points, five rebounds and five steals. Freshman Leara Shumate (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) matched career bests with two field goals and four points.

R-MC held a 51-34 advantage on the boards. The Yellow Jacket defense forced 22 turnovers and held HU to 35.5% shooting from the floor, including 16.7% from beyond the arc (2-12).

Randolph-Macon returns to ODAC action on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at Shenandoah.
