Box Score ASHLAND, Va. –Senior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va. / Nansemond River) tallied 17 kills as the Randolph-Macon volleyball team defeated Lynchburg in ODAC action Wednesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets (13-1, 4-0 ODAC) won the first set 25-20, took the second set 25-15 and claimed their fourth ODAC victory with a 25-20 win in the third set.
R-MC opened the first set on a 3-0 run. The Hornets (4-9, 1-3 ODAC) kept the score within two points and tied the score at 12-12 and 17-17 before the Yellow Jackets claimed the set on an 8-3 spurt.
The second set was tied at 1-1 before R-MC went on an 8-1 run to hold a 9-2 advantage. The Hornets responded with a 5-2 spurt to come within four points of the Yellow Jackets. R-MC clinched the second set with a 14-8 spurt. Sophomore Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) served eight points during the run.
The Hornets held the lead for the first half of the third set before the Yellow Jackets tied the score at 14-14. R-MC won the third set on an 11-6 run.
Sophomore Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) recorded 16 assists and senior Riley Martin (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) added 14 assists.
Sallade paced R-MC with 14 digs. Quinn added 10 digs and senior Katie Rossberg (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) and Lowers chipped in seven digs each.
R-MC returns to action on the road on Saturday, Sept. 26 to play two matches at Washington and Lee University. The Yellow Jackets, who are receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll will face #2 Christopher Newport at 11 a.m. and #4 Emory at 3 p.m.
