ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Victoria Cappadora (Manchester, Md. / Manchester Valley) scored in the fifth minute of overtime off a pass from senior Mackenzie Turner (Virginia Beach, Va. / Tallwood) as the Randolph-Macon field hockey team claimed a 2-1 victory over Roanoke in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.

Roanoke struck first off of a blocked shot in the 10th minute of the ODAC opener. The Maroons (4-1, 0-1 ODAC) held the lead for 13 minutes. 

Turner found junior Kaitee Nicholas (Virginia Beach, Va. / Tallwood) during a penalty corner for the Yellow Jackets (6-2, 1-0 ODAC) in the 23rd minute to tie the score at 1-1. The score remained tied at the end of regulation.

In the fifth minute of overtime, Turner passed the ball from the right side of the box to Cappadora to seal the victory for R-MC.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va. / Louisa County) kept R-MC alive during the contest, recording 14 saves, including 10 in the second period. Stanley recorded two saves in overtime.

The Maroons held a 27-17 advantage in shots. 

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. on Day Field against Christopher Newport.
