ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, VA / Nansemond River) led all players with eight kills as the Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team defeated North Carolina Wesleyan 3-0 Tuesday evening.

The Yellow Jackets (1-0) won the first set 25-14, clenched the second set 25-14 and claimed the victory with a 25-18 decision in the final set.

R-MC opened the first set with a 3-0 run and expanded their lead to 8-4 before the Battling Bishops (0-1) cut the deficit to 10-8. R-MC held a two-point advantage at 15-13. Senior Riley Martin (Crozet, VA / Western Albemarle) served the next six points as the lead expanded to 21-13. The Yellow Jackets scored four of the final six points to claim the first game 25-15.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second game on a 12-3 run and maintained an eight–point advantage at 18-10. R-MC closed the second game on a 7-4 run to win 25-14.

The third game stayed close with no team reaching a double-digit lead. The Yellow Jackets faced a 3-1 deficit early before taking the lead 10-6. N.C. Wesleyan tied the match 11-11 and stayed within one before tying the match 15-15. R-MC went on a 10-3 run to claim the third set 25-18.

Martin paced R-MC with 14 assists and sophomore Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) had 12 assists.

Sophomore Samantha Sallade (Newport News, VA / Peninsula Catholic) led the Yellow Jackets with 11 digs.

Sophomore Colleen Beaver (Fredericksburg, VA / Massaponax) tallied three solo blocks and two assisted blocks for R-MC.

R-MC begins an eight game road trip on Wednesday Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at Mary Washington.
