Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Senior Elizabeth Blanco (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) snared 11 saves as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team was edged 1-0 at Christopher Newport on Tuesday evening in the season opener for both schools.
Blanco registered five saves in the first half and six in the second.
The Captains (1-0) had a 13-3 advantage in shots in the first period, but the match remained scoreless at halftime. CNU broke through with a goal early in the second half in the 47th minute.
CNU held a 26-6 edge in shots for the contest. Four of the six shots for the Yellow Jackets (0-1) were on goal. Senior Lindsey Hall (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run), senior Meghan O'Neal (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin), senior Sam Tyler (Colonial Heights, Va./Colonial Heights) and freshman TaylorAnne Barry (Earlysville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) each had a shot on goal for R-MC.
R-MC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 5, for a 4 p.m. contest at North Carolina Wesleyan.
