Hsieh scores game winner in fourth overtime for R-MC

ASHLAND, Va.—Freshman Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, MD / Centennial) scored five goals, including the game-winner, as the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team topped Farmingdale State 15-14 in four overtimes Tuesday afternoon at Day Field.

Hsieh scored three of the first four goals in the match to give the Yellow Jackets (4-2) a 3-1 advantage. The Rams (0-2) tied the score 3-3 with 22:24 left in the first period. The score was tied at 5-5 before junior Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, MD / Springbrook) netted a goal to give R-MC a 6-5 advantage. Farmingdale State tied the score 6-6 before scoring again to take their first lead of the game, 7-6. With five minutes remaining in the period, junior Katie Russo (Cockeysville, MD / Dulaney) found Whitman for a goal to tie the score 7-7. Sophomore Laney Dee (Norfolk, VA / Bishop Sullivan) scored with just under three minutes until halftime but the Rams found the net again to make it 8-8 at intermission.

Freshman Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, VA / Woodson) found senior Betsy Hebert (Lutherville, MD / Roland Park Country) early in the second period to give R-MC a 9-8 lead. Farmingdale State tied the score 10-10 before Russo and Whitman added goals to give the Yellow Jackets a 12-10 advantage with 13:47 remaining. The Rams scored the next two goals to tie the score 12-12 with just under six minutes left in regulation. Hsieh scored the final goal for R-MC in regulation but the Rams found the net with 0:35 seconds remaining to tie the score 13-13.

Dee netted the only goal in the first overtime to give R-MC a 14-13 advantage. The Rams tied the score 14-14 in the second overtime to force a third overtime. Neither team scored in the third overtime, a sudden victory period. In the final seconds of the fourth overtime, Hsieh netted a goal on a free position shot to clinch the 15-14 victory for R-MC.

The Yellow Jackets held a 37-28 advantage on shots and 16-12 on ground balls.

Sophomore Jamie Langbein (Brookville, MD / Sherwood) recorded four saves for R-MC.

The Yellow Jackets are on the road on Friday, March 20 for a 4:30pm ODAC contest against Hollins.
