Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ASHLAND, Va. – Junior left-hander James Walsh (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) carried a no-hitter into the seventh and registered a career-high 13 strikeouts in the opener as the 22nd-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team swept an ODAC doubleheader from Washington and Lee Sunday afternoon at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.

The Yellow Jackets (11-1, 5-1 ODAC) won 8-3 in Game 1 and took the nightcap 16-1.

Walsh (2-0) surrendered a leadoff single in the seventh, the first hit of the game for the Generals (3-3, 1-2 ODAC). Walsh went seven innings with one hit, two unearned runs and one walk. He retired 15 straight from the second through the sixth and fanned six in a row through one stretch.

After the Generals tallied an unearned run in the top of the second, the Yellow Jackets rallied for two in the bottom of the third. With two away, junior Travis Lodge (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) and sophomore Stuart Brown (Midlothian, Va./Trinity) had consecutive singles. Junior Michael Kroll (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) hit a fly ball to right that was mishandled, allowing both Lodge and Brown to score as R-MC took a 2-1 lead.

The Yellow Jackets erupted for three two-out runs in the fourth. Junior Christian Sanderson (Lynchburg, Va./Jefferson Forest) had a one-out bunt single and stole second. With two away, senior Nate Meiners (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's Prep) singled through the left side to bring home Sanderson. Junior Mitch Keeler (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) had a base hit to left to move Meiners to third. Lodge doubled to left center to plate Meiners and Keeler and increase the lead to 5-1.

Brown had an RBI single in a two-run sixth and Keeler homered in the eighth to round out the scoring.

In the nightcap, freshman Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) allowed four hits and one unearned run in seven innings to raise his record to 4-0. Spiers did not walk a batter and struck out six.

After plating a run in the first, freshman Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) had a two-run double to cap a five-run second as R-MC took a 6-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets scored two in the fifth and sixth before adding six in the seventh.

Randolph-Macon will face undefeated and nationally-ranked Frostburg State on Tuesday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m.
