R-MC's Byrd and Blanco Batter Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Senior John Byrd (Manassas Park, Va./Manassas Park) gained 155 yards on the ground and freshman Yonis Blanco (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) had four rushing touchdowns as the Randolph-Macon football team ground out a 35-14 ODAC victory at Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (3-6, 2-4 ODAC) had 59 carries for 330 rushing yards. Byrd rushed 28 times and had one touchdown. Freshman Eric Hoy (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) carried 13 times for 79 yards, while Blanco rushed 11 times for 75 yards and four scores. R-MC held an advantage in time of possession of 36:37-23:23, the third straight game the Yellow Jackets held the ball for at least 36 minutes.

The Yellow Jackets won the toss and deferred to the second half. The Eagles (3-6, 1-5 ODAC) drove to the R-MC 41 before freshman JJ Hill (Roanoke, Va./William Fleming) picked off a pass and took it to the R-MC 44. The Yellow Jackets drove to the BC 35 and faced fourth and one. Blanco went around the left side and took it to the end zone to give the visitors a 7-0 lead with 7:06 remaining in the opening period.

The Yellow Jacket defense stopped the Eagles and R-MC took over on the BC 44 following a punt. The Yellow Jackets needed just six plays to reach the end zone, as Blanco scored from three yards out to give R-MC a 14-0 lead with 1:27 remaining in the first quarter.

Bridgewater went 80 yards on its next possession to cut the deficit in half at 14-7 with 12:15 left in the second quarter.

On its next possession, R-MC faced fourth and 10 from its own 40. Junior Colin McFadden was in position to punt, but ran around the right side for a 24-yard gain to the BC 36. Blanco capped the 70-yard drive by scoring from the one to give the Yellow Jackets a 21-7 lead with 5:24 remaining in the half.

On its second possession of the second half, R-MC drove 88 yards in 12 plays in 6:23 to push the advantage to 28-7. Blanco scored from three yards out to finish the drive.

The Eagles tallied a touchdown on their next possession to narrow the gap to 28-14 with 13:02 left in the fourth period.

The Yellow Jackets put together another long drive, going 78 yards in 13 plays in 7:39 as Byrd went in from one yard out to make it 35-14 with 5:23 remaining.

BC was able to register just one first down on its next possession and R-MC ran out the final 4:14 to secure the win.

Senior Eric Long (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) led the R-MC defense with 10 tackles, while junior Deshaun Rogers (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) registered eight tackles.

Randolph-Macon concludes the 2015 campaign by hosting long-time rival Hampden-Sydney on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. at Day Field.
