Box Score ASHLAND, Va.—Junior Kaitee Nicholas (Virginia Beach, Va. / Tallwood) registered a goal in the 12th minute and an assist as the Randolph-Macon field hockey team claimed a 3-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite Monday afternoon.
Freshman Zoe Tallman (Chesapeake, Va. / Western Branch) found Nicholas in the 12th minute to give the Yellow Jackets (10-7, 2-4 ODAC) a 1-0 advantage over the Royals (3-13, 0-6 ODAC).
R-MC added one more goal before halftime. Freshman Rachel Gist (Suffolk, Va. / Kings Fork) notched a goal for herself off a pass from Nicholas in the 23rd minute.
In the second period, sophomore Haley McMahon (Fredericksburg, Va. / Riverbend) capitalized on a deflected shot to seal the 3-0 victory for the Yellow Jackets.
R-MC held an impressive 40-13 advantage in shots. McMahon led the Yellow Jackets with eight shots, four of which were on goal. Nicholas recorded seven shots while Tallman, Gist and senior Renee Greenslade (Hamilton, Bermuda) added three shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va. / Louisa County) recorded seven saves.
R-MC raised funds and awareness of Breast Cancer Awareness Month through the Play4TheCure Campaign, sponsored by the National Foundation for Cancer Research. The Yellow Jackets wore pink items to show their support of those impacted by cancer.
This was the final regular season home contest. The Yellow Jackets return to action in their regular season finale on the road on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. against Lynchburg.
