ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va. / Nansemond River) recorded 17 kills as the Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team defeated Emory and Henry 3-0 Sunday afternoon.

Senior Katie Rossberg (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) added eight kills and sophomore Emily Ortiz (Williamsburg, Va. / Jamestown) registered six kills for R-MC.

The Yellow Jackets (18-3, 9-0 ODAC) claimed the first set 25-11. The Wasps (10-12, 3-5 ODAC) forced more points out of the Yellow Jackets in the second and third sets, but ultimately fell short. R-MC won the second and third sets, 25-19.

R-MC held a 6-2 lead to start the first set. The Yellow Jackets expanded their lead to 14-7 before taking the first set, 25-11, on an 11-4 spurt.

The Wasps started the second set with a 3-1 advantage before the Yellow Jackets tied the score at 4-4 and went on a 3-0 run to gain the lead. R-MC held a 12-8 margin before Emory and Henry tied the score at 15-all. The Yellow Jackets won the set on a 10-4  spurt.

The score was tied at 3-3 in the third set. R-MC went on a 4-1 run to hold a 7-4 advantage. The Yellow Jackets held a four-point lead at 14-10 but the Wasps used a 6-2 spurt to tie the score at 16-all. R-MC closed the set on a 9-3 run.

Sophomore Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) registered 18 assists and senior Riley Martin (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) added 17 assists.

Sophomore Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) paced R-MC with 17 digs. Rossberg and Lowers added 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

Lowers and sophomore Colleen Beaver (Fredericksburg, Va. / Massaponax) led R-MC defensively with four assisted blocks.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7pm against Virginia Wesleyan in Crenshaw Gymnasium for a Senior Day matchup and the tiebreaker for first place in the ODAC.
