Box Score ROANOKE, Va. – Senior Riley Martin (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) recorded 23 assists as the Randolph-Macon volleyball team defeated Hollins 3-0 Thursday evening.
The Yellow Jackets (14-3, 5-0 ODAC) won the first and second sets 25-15 and claimed the victory with a 25-12 win in the third set.
The score was tied at 4-4 in the first set before R-MC went on a 12-5 spurt to hold a 16-9 advantage over Hollins (2-13, 0-4 ODAC). R-MC maintained its lead at 19-12. Martin served the next five points to make it 24-12 and the Yellow Jackets went on to win the first set 25-15.
R-MC opened the first set with a 10-5 run. Hollins came to within three at 13-10 before the Yellow Jackets closed the set on a 12-5 spurt.
The Yellow Jackets held an early 2-0 lead in the third set before Hollins tied the score at 4-4. R-MC maintained a slim two-point advantage at 8-6 before claiming their fifth ODAC victory with a 17-6 run. Martin served the final six points of the set.
Senior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va. / Nansemond River) led the team with eight kills and senior Addie Cooper (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) added seven kills.
Sophomore Erin Quinn (Morrisville, NC / Cardinal Gibbons) chipped in 16 assists.
Sophomore Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) paced R-MC with 12 digs.
R-MC was led defensively by sophomores Colleen Beaver (Fredericksburg, Va. / Massaponax) and Morgan Seal (Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian). Beaver registered two assisted blocks while Seal recorded one solo and one assisted block.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. for an ODAC contest against Roanoke.
