R-MC Passes VWC 9-5

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon baseball team recorded its seventh ODAC win in nine games as they passed Virginia Wesleyan 9-5 this afternoon on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.

Despite a three hit, two run Yellow Jackets rally in the first after Travis Lodge (Chesterfield, VA / Matoaca) (2-for-4) posted his fourth homerun of the season, the Marlins (9-15, 3-6 ODAC) would respond with two runs in the second to knot the contest 2-2.

Trailing 4-2 in the fourth, Nick Maiolo (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) (2-for-4) doubled to deep right center, driving in Christian Sanderson (Lynchburg, VA / Jefferson Forest) (1-for-3) and Nate Meiners (Silver Spring, MD / St. John's Prep) to tie the game 4-4. Two hits by Tim Benjamin (Glenelg, MD / Glenelg) (3-for-5) and Michael Trantham (2-for-5) would add two runs to give the Jackets the 6-4 edge.

Leading 6-5 in the eighth, Maiolo recorded a two run homerun (2) for the three run insurance. R-MC would go on to post one more run leading 9-5 going into the ninth. VWC would be unable to respond as starting pitcher Jamie Hendrick (Chesterfield, VA / L.C. Bird) (4-1) would take home the win throwing five while Glen McLaughlin (Richmond, VA / Douglas Freeman) took home his third save.

The Randolph-Macon baseball team returns to action this Saturday March, 29 to a 12 pm ODAC doubleheader against Roanoke College on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
