Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - Junior John Byrd (Manassas Park, Va./Manassas Park) recorded career highs with 33 carries and 219 rushing yards as the Randolph-Macon football team defeated Shenandoah 47-23 Saturday afternoon on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (4-4, 2-3) amassed 512 total yards on 80 plays, including 361 on the ground.
Senior Zac Naccarato (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) completed 11 of 14 passes for 151 yards and four scores. Senior Mike Doe (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) had five catches for 73 yards and three touchdowns.
The Yellow Jackets took the opening kickoff and drove 70 yards in 12 plays as Naccarato took it in from one yard out to give R-MC a 7-0 lead six minutes into the contest.
The Hornets answered with a touchdown early in the second quarter to knot the score at 7-7.
On R-MC's next possession, Byrd scored on a one-yard run to give the visitors a 13-6 lead.
SU hit a 25-yard field goal midway through the period to make it a 13-10 contest.
The Yellow Jackets tallied two touchdowns in the final minutes of the first half. Naccarato hit sophomore Steven Quinn (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) with a five-yard scoring toss with 2:05 remaining to make it 20-10. Following a fumble recovery, Byrd rumbled 34 yards to the end zone to make it 27-10 at intermission.
After the Hornets blocked a punt for a touchdown, Naccarato hit Doe on a 12-yard scoring toss to make it 34-16. Doe pulled in two more scoring passes in the fourth quarter to make it 47-23.
Senior Tom Solak (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) was one of four Yellow Jackets with six tackles. He also had two tackles for loss, one quarterback sack and one pass breakup.
Randolph-Macon plays its final home contest on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. against Bridgewater.
