Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon field hockey team built a 3-0 lead, but first-place Lynchburg roared back to claim a 4-3 ODAC win in double overtime on a soggy Saturday afternoon.
Senior Rachael Gardner (Rapidan, Va./Orange County) put in a rebound in the 11th minute as R-MC took a 1-0 lead. Senior Catherine Pricone (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) scored on a penalty corner in the 17th minute on an assist by senior Olivia Newman (Orange, Va./Orange County) as the advantage grew to 2-0. Pricone assisted on a goal by freshman Haley McMahon (Fredericksburg, Va.) in the 19th minute as the Yellow Jackets (3-9, 2-2 ODAC) took a 3-0 lead.
The Hornets (9-6, 4-0 ODAC) converted a penalty stroke with 22 seconds left in the first half to make it a 3-1 score at intermission.
Lynchburg added goals in the 52nd and 57th minutes to knot the score at 3-3.
Meredith Bradsher put in a rebound off a penalty corner in the second overtime period to give the Hornets the victory.
Senior Carrie Jacobs (Orange, Va./Orange County) led R-MC with eight shots, including three shots on goal.
Freshman Shannon McMurray (Stafford, Va.) recorded 19 saves for the Yellow Jackets.
R-MC returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 16 against Centre College.
