Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior John Byrd (Manassas Park, Va./Manassas Park) rushed 22 times for 185 yards and two touchdowns as the Randolph-Macon football team doubled Catholic 42-21 Friday evening in ODAC action at Day Field.
The Yellow Jackets (3-2, 1-1 ODAC) amassed 561 yards of total offense, including 393 yards on the ground.
Byrd started the scoring with a 13-yard TD run with 24 seconds left in the first period to cap an 80-yard drive as R-MC led 7-0 after one quarter. Senior Mike Doe (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from senior Zac Naccarato (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) with 8:09 left in the second period, again to cap an 80-yard drive, and Naccarato found the end zone on a 27-yard scamper with 6:32 remaining in the first half as the Yellow Jackets took a 21-0 lead. The Cardinals (2-3, 0-2 ODAC) scored late in the period to trail 21-7 at halftime.
Freshman Dustin Hiner (Blue Ridge, Va./Liberty) scored from three yards out in the third quarter to extend the R-MC advantage to 28-7.
Both teams scored twice in the final stanza. Byrd rumbled 68 yards for a TD and senior Jesse Knepp (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) rushed 14 yards to the end zone as R-MC posted the 42-21 win.
Naccarato completed 15 of 26 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown. Senior Steven Quinn (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) had four receptions for 85 yards.
Sophomore Marcus Mitchell (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) led the Yellow Jackets with eight tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
R-MC returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 for a 1 p.m. ODAC contest at Washington and Lee.
