Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Shannon McMurray (Stafford, Va.) recorded 14 saves and sophomore Kaitee Nicholas (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) registered a pair of assists as the Randolph-Macon field hockey team was edged by Shenandoah 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
McMurray had seven saves in each half for the Yellow Jackets (2-7, 1-1 ODAC).
The Hornets (6-4, 2-0 ODAC) scored in the 10th and 30th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Senior Alexandra Clark (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) scored her first goal of the season with seven seconds left in the first half with senior Catherine Pricone (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) providing the assist as R-MC trailed 2-1 at intermission.
Pricone evened the match in the 50th minute on an assist by Nicholas to make it a 2-2 contest. SU reclaimed the lead five minutes later to take a 3-2 advantage. Senior Carrie Jacobs (Orange, Va./Orange County) leveled the score at 3-3 in the 59th minute with another assist by Nicholas. The Hornets took the lead for good with 7:25 left in the contest.
R-MC took 21 shots, including 16 on goal. Jacobs led the Yellow Jackets with six shots, including four shots on goal.
Randolph-Macon plays a make-up home match with Mary Washington on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.
