DANVILLE, Va. – Senior running back Will McGhee (Fishersville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns as Randolph-Macon thumped Averett 33-6 at the Cougar Den.

The Yellow Jackets (1-1) scored on their first possession for the second straight game as McGhee posted a 5-yard run for a 7-0 R-MC lead midway through the first period.

The Cougars (0-2) found the end zone late in the first quarter to pull within one at 7-6.

The R-MC defense stopped AU at the goal line early in the second quarter and the Jackets put together a 16-play, 99-yard drive, capped by a 2-yard McGhee run, as the visitors led 14-6 at halftime.

R-MC scored touchdowns on its first two second-half possessions and field goals on the next two in pushing the lead to 33-6. Junior quarterback Zac Naccarato (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) tossed a 24-yard scoring strike to senior wide receiver Greg Petrohovich (Richmond, Va./Benedictine) and a 13-yard TD pass to freshman tight end Steven Quinn (Richmond, Va./Deep Run), both in the third quarter. Colin McFadden added field goals of 37 and 26 yards in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.

The Yellow Jackets amassed a time of possession of 39:11, compared to 20:49 for the Cougars.

The Jackets stay on the road next Saturday with a 1 p.m. start at Bethany on Sept. 21.
