R-MC Women's Lacrosse Places Four on All-ODAC Teams; Johnsen Named Scholar Athlete of the Year

FOREST, VA – The Randolph-Macon College Women's Lacrosse team placed four student-athletes on the 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) All-Conference Teams as the league announced its yearly awards on Tuesday.  Rachel Johnsen was the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year in a vote of the league's sports information directors.

Johnsen, a senior from Laurel, Md., performs on and off the field for the Yellow Jackets.  In the classroom, Johnsen maintains a 3.90 grade point average as a double major in Political Science and French.  She is a member of several honor societies including Phi Beta Kappa (national historic academic), Pi Sigma Alpha (political science), Pi Delta Phi (French), Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership) and Gamma Sigma Alpha (Greek academic).  A multiple Dean's List honoree and a three-time member of the All-ODAC Academic Team, Johnsen has been the recipient of three scholarships on R-MC's campus.  On the field, Johnsen notched 19 points on 14 goals and five assists.  She is eighth in the ODAC with 59 draw controls, and has also racked up 39 groundballs and 16 caused turnovers.

Senior midfielder Emily Lynch adds to her post-season awards with a Second Team All-ODAC nod. Lynch wrapped up her final season in Ashland with 77 points on 51 goals, including 10 off of free position shots and 18 assists. Her points and goals not only ranked first on the team, but also in the top-five in the conference. She was also a consistent force on defense, finishing the year with a team-high 24 caused turnovers and now ranks third in R-MC history with 67 total. Lynch also picked up 38 ground balls and won 28 draw controls. In the 2013 ODAC Tournament, she led the Yellow Jackets to its first quarterfinal victory since 2010 with six goals and one assist to defeat Roanoke 17-11.
Maggie Benson, Katie Russo and Betsy Hebert all received Third Team All-ODAC Honors for their efforts this season. 

Benson anchored the R-MC defense during the 2013 season, staring in all 18 games for the Yellow Jackets.  Benson picked up 25 ground balls and caused nine turnovers as she earned the second all-league accolade of her career.

Russo earns her first conference award during her rookie season as a Yellow Jacket. She has registered 41 points off of 29 goals and 12 assists. Russo has also picked up 23 ground balls and caused seven turnovers. For her efforts during the season, she was named to the ODAC Player of the Week Honor Roll two times.

Hebert was a catalyst in the R-MC offense, scoring 25 goals and dishing out a team-high 21 assists for 46 points. She also picked up 19 ground balls and caused seven turnovers. She was also named to the ODAC Player of the Week Honor Roll once this season.
