Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. – Junior Connor Sullivan (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day School) led a quartet of double-figure scorers for No. 16 Randolph-Macon, but the Yellow Jackets dropped a 78-76 decision to host Scranton in the championship game of the Radisson Invitational at the Long Center.
Senior Andre Simon (Newport News, Va./Menchville) hit a layup with just under two minutes remaining to knot the score at 74, the ninth tie in the contest. Ross Danzig hit a three-pointer for the Royals (2-0) with 1:22 left to put the home team ahead to stay. Junior Marcus Badger (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) made a layup with 23 seconds left to pull R-MC within one at 77-76. Tommy Morgan hit one of two free throws for Scranton to make it 78-76. Junior Chris Hamilton (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) missed a three-pointer with four seconds left for the Yellow Jackets (1-1). Brendan Boken grabbed the free throw, was fouled and missed both free throws for the Royals. Junior Joe Hassell (Portsmouth, Va./Indian River) missed a jumper at the buzzer for R-MC.
R-MC trailed by nine with five minutes to go in the first half before using a 17-8 run to even the score at 43-43 at intermission. Neither team led by more than four in the second half.
Simon finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. He was named to the All-Tournament Team. Badger contributed 15 points and five assists, while junior Akeem Holmes (King William, Va./King William) tallied 10.
The Yellow Jackets have their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. against Christopher Newport.
