Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior running back Will McGhee (Fishersville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) carried the ball 38 times for 250 yards and one touchdown as Randolph-Macon fell 28-21 at Guilford in ODAC football action at Appenzeller Field.
The Quakers (5-2, 4-0 ODAC) put together a 99-yard drive on its first possession and scored twice in the second quarter in building a 21-0 lead at halftime.
The Yellow Jackets (5-2, 3-1 ODAC) found the end zone on their first drive in the second half. Junior quarterback Zac Naccarato (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) hit senior wide receiver Christian Cook (Reistertown, Md./Calvert Hall) on a 19-yard TD strike to cap a 12-play, 73-yard drive as R-MC cut the deficit to 21-7.
R-MC drove 74 yards in eight plays on its next drive, capped by a four-yard run by sophomore running back John Byrd (Manassas Park, Va./Manassas Park), to make it a 21-14 contest.
After Guilford added a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to raise its lead to 28-14, McGhee streaked 54 yards to the end zone to narrow the margin to 28-21 with 8:14 remaining. The Yellow Jackets had the ball two more times in the period, but were not able to tie it.
Naccarato hit 11 of 18 passes for 133 yards and one score. Cook finished with five catches for 38 yards and one TD.
Junior defensive tackle Calvin Davis (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) led the R-MC defense with seven tackles, including six unassisted stops.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a 1 p.m. home ODAC contest against Shenandoah at Day Field.
