Box Score ASHLAND, VA - The Denison field hockey team received three goals and one assist from midfielder Katie McMahon on its way to a 4-3 overtime victory over R-MC. The Yellow Jackets offense posted goals from three different players: Lauren Seal, Carrie Jacobs, and Rachael Gardner.
McMahon would be the first to connect with two unassisted goals in four minutes to put Denison up 2-0 with 17 minutes left in the first half.
The score would remain at 2-0 in favor of the Big Red until R-MC junior forward Seal scored off and assist from Olivia Newman at the 20 minute mark to make the score at 2-1. Denison took a 3-1 lead when McMahon put a ball past the goalkeeper Nicole Woodworth at the 25 minute mark.
R-MC would control the second stanza with a goal from Jacobs in the 51st minute to bring the Yellow Jackets within one. Sophomore forward, Gardner, notched the tying goal in the 62nd minute to send the match into overtime.
With neither team able to find the go-ahead goal in the game's final minutes, the teams prepared for overtime. In the extra period, it was forward Catie Merrick who netted the game-winner following a pass from McMahon to send Denison to its fifth win of the season.
R-MC held the edge in penalty corners 13-8 but was outshot 17-14. Goalkeepers, Woodworth and Shannon McMurray, combined for 11 total saves with seven and four respectively.
