Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Despite an early first half goal from sophomore Carrie Jacobs, R-MC fell to 14th NFHCA ranked Christopher Newport University on Friday night by a score of 5-1.
CNU's Taylor Young led the offensive charge with two unassisted goals off of four shots while Jacobs posted the only goal for the Yellow Jackets.
Lindsey Hendricks was the first to strike for the Captains at the five minute mark off an assist from Jordan Snider.
Jacobs would even the score less than a minute later with an unassisted goal. The Yellow Jackets defense would hold strong the rest of the half with eight saves to keep the score 1-1 going into half time.
The Captains controlled the second half scoring four straight goals from Marlene Lichty, Belle Tunstall, and the last two goals of the game from Young.
Goalkeeper Nicole Woodworth led the defense with a season high 24 saves on the night. Olivia Newman (2), Jenna Marlette (1), and Elizabeth Steiner (1) also combined for a season high four defensive stops for the Yellow Jackets.
R-MC will be back in action tomorrow at CNU versus Denison at 2:00 p.m.
